intro
Escher in the Palace is a permanent exhibition in The Hague dedicated to the Dutch graphical artist M.C. Escher. The collection is located in the former Winter Palace of Queen Mother Emma of the Netherlands. The exhibit presents nearly all his prints, including Belvedere, Drawing Hands, Waterfall, and Ascending and Descending. Your eyes and brain will struggle to understand what they see as you'll notice how birds are morphing into fish and water flow upstream.
Additional Information
M.C. Escher is a master in optical illusions, and you'll see things that are, in fact, impossible. Visitors unravel some of Escher's mysteries, like the Impossible Penrose Triangle, by constructing one himself.
Many find the highlight of the visit to be the seven-meter-long Metamorphosis III. This enormous woodcut allows visitors to experience Escher's combination of time and space as an organic unity.
The museum offers a lovely cafe in case you need a relaxing break during your visit. The museum shop has unique gifts, books, mugs, and other memorials.
