Avoid Cable Car Crowds at Sunset

Categories: Transportation | Traveling
The Lycabettus Funicular (Teleferik) is the fastest way to reach the peak, but the queue at the Aristippou Street boarding point in Kolonaki swells dramatically around 45 minutes before sunset. Because the cable car ascends through a closed dark tunnel, you also miss out on panoramic views during the ride up.
For a far more scenic experience, walk the paved winding footpath starting at the top of Loukianou Street. The walk takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes through pine trees and prickly pear cactus flora, rewarding you with continuously expanding views over Athens and the Saronic Gulf. If you must use the funicular, purchase tickets online beforehand and arrive at least an hour before golden hour.
