Many world-class museums, galleries, and historical sites have excellent accessibility features, but they often require wheelchair users to use alternative, dedicated entrances (like staff elevators or side doors) that aren’t clearly marked on standard maps.

Always contact the attraction a few days before your visit. Booking accessible entry in advance often allows you to bypass the main queues entirely. The staff will provide exact instructions on where to arrive, ensuring a smooth, dignified, and VIP-like experience without waiting in the heat or crowds.

A hotel might be perfectly accessible inside, but if it is situated at the top of a steep hill or surrounded by historic cobblestone streets, leaving the property becomes a logistical nightmare.

During your planning phase, drop the Google Maps Street View figure directly outside your chosen hotel’s entrance. Virtually “walk” the immediate block to check for curb cuts, smooth pavement, and the incline of the street. This quick check will save you from booking a highly accessible hotel in a completely inaccessible neighborhood.

When booking accommodations, never assume that an “accessible room” automatically includes a roll-in shower. Many hotels classify rooms with grab bars over a standard bathtub as accessible, which is entirely unsuitable for wheelchair users.

Before confirming any reservation, always call or email the hotel directly to specifically request a room with a zero-entry (roll-in) shower. Ask the staff to confirm the width of the bathroom door and ensure there is adequate turning space for your specific mobility device.
