Board Buses Uphill for a Guaranteed Seat Back

A bus navigating a winding mountain road overlooking the sea during twilight in Jiufen.
Categories: Transportation | Traveling

Departing the mountain around dusk can be frustrating. The main bus stop next to 7-Eleven at the Old Street entrance frequently has queues stretching dozens of meters for buses back to Taipei (Bus 965 and Bus 1062) or Ruifang Station.

To guarantee a seat and avoid standing in long queues, walk roughly 300 meters uphill past the Old Street entrance to the Gaozhi or Jiufen Police Station bus stop. Because buses fill to capacity at earlier stops on busy evenings, boarding before the main crowd ensures you get on the first arriving vehicle rather than waiting for multiple packed buses to pass by.
