Cycle Section by Section on the Confederation Trail

Categories: Transportation | Traveling
When the provincial railway was decommissioned in 1989, the tracks were transformed into the Confederation Trail, a 449-kilometer rolled-stone dust pathway stretching from tip to tip across the province. Because it was originally a railway line, the maximum grade never exceeds two percent, making it exceptionally accessible for cyclists of all fitness levels.
Instead of attempting the full route, choose short, scenic day rides such as the picturesque stretch between Mount Stewart and Morell, which winds along scenic estuaries and wildlife wetlands. Local bike outfitters in Charlottetown and St. Peters Bay offer one-way rentals and shuttle pick-up services, allowing you to cycle with a favorable tailwind without backtracking.
