Cycle the Veluwe Borderlands

One of Harderwijk's greatest assets is its unique geographical position, sandwiched between the shimmering waters of the Veluwemeer and the dense, mystical forests of the Veluwe. Renting a bicycle is the ultimate way to experience this dramatic transition of landscapes.
Pedal southwards from the city center, and within fifteen minutes, you will find yourself cycling under the canopy of the Leuvenumse Bos, a pristine forest home to wild boars, red deer, and meandering streams. Alternatively, head towards the Beekhuizerzand, a spectacular active sand drift area that feels like an inland desert.
Local bike rental shops near the central station offer both traditional Dutch step-through bikes and e-bikes. Opt for an e-bike if you plan to tackle the longer, gently undulating forest paths of the Veluwe, and always stay on the designated cycle paths (fietspaden) to protect the delicate local ecosystem.
