Discover the Underground Time Staircase

Most visitors stick to the bustling ground floor food stalls, missing one of Markthal's coolest free attractions hidden right beneath their feet. During construction, archaeologists unearthed thousands of medieval artifacts dating back to the 10th century from Rotterdam's early settlement known as Rotta.

Take the central escalators down toward the subterranean parking garage to experience De Tijdtrap (The Time Staircase). Display cases integrated directly along the staircase and escalator levels exhibit medieval pottery, tools, leather shoes, and weapons in chronological order, offering a fascinating history lesson as you descend.
