Don't Confuse the Church and Bell Tower Entrances

The exterior facade and soaring green dome of St. Nicholas Church against a dramatic evening sky.

A common mistake among visitors to St. Nicholas Church is assuming a single ticket grants entry to both the sanctuary and the soaring bell tower. In reality, they are two completely distinct entities with separate entry doors, operating hours, and ticketing desks.

The opulent High Baroque nave is managed by the church administration, showcasing Johann Lukas Kracker's massive ceiling fresco and exceptional stucco work. The adjacent 65-meter-tall belfry is operated by the city municipality. If you wish to admire the altar and interior artwork, enter through the western facade; if you want panoramic rooftop views across the river and town roofs, look for the narrow tower entryway around the side.
