Dress for the Flevoland Wind (Year-Round)

Batavialand is situated directly on the Markermeer, a large lake in the province of Flevoland. This location, especially on reclaimed land, means it can be surprisingly windy and feel cooler than inland areas, even on a sunny day. The open-air nature of much of the museum, including the impressive Batavia ship and the expansive shipyard, means you'll be exposed to the elements for the majority of your visit.

Regardless of the season, it's wise to bring layers. A windproof jacket is highly recommended, even in summer, as the breeze coming off the lake can be quite brisk. In spring, autumn, and winter, a warm hat, gloves, and a scarf will make your visit significantly more comfortable. Don't underestimate the chill factor by the water; being prepared will allow you to fully enjoy exploring the decks of the Batavia and wandering the expansive grounds without being distracted by the cold.
