Scattered across the city are over 2,500 historic cast-iron drinking fountains affectionately called nasoni (large noses) by locals. Running constantly with crisp, ice-cold water supplied by ancient aqueducts, these fountains are safe, clean, and completely free to use.

Instead of ducking your head awkwardly beneath the downward-facing spout, locate the tiny hole on the upper curve of the spout. Place your index finger firmly over the bottom opening; water pressure will force a smooth, clean stream out of the top hole, creating a convenient fountain arch perfectly angled for drinking directly without touching your mouth to the metal.
