Escape the Heat at Monastiraki Rooftops

An elevated evening view of illuminated Hadrian's Library and Monastiraki Square from a rooftop.
Categories: Traveling

The archaeological site of Hadrian’s Library offers very little shade, and the marble ruins can reflect intense heat during the middle of the day. To appreciate the scale of the library without melting under the Athenian sun, head to one of the rooftop cafes or bars overlooking Monastiraki Square.

Venues like A for Athens or 360 Cocktail Bar provide an incredible bird's-eye view of the library's layout, the adjacent Roman Agora, and the Acropolis rising in the background. It is the perfect spot to enjoy a cold Freddo Espresso while photographing the ruins from a unique, elevated perspective.
