Escape to the Shaded Romanticism of the Medici Fountain

While the central lawns and main palace draw the largest crowds, the northeast corner of the park harbors one of the most serene and romantic spots in Paris: the Fontaine Médicis (Medici Fountain). Built in 1630 by Marie de' Medici, this Italianate water feature is framed by an avenue of plane trees that cast deep, cool shade.

The long, narrow water basin acts as a mirror reflecting the stone sculptures depicting Greek mythology and the lush canopy above. Running along both sides of the basin are rows of green armchairs, making it an exceptional refuge on hot summer afternoons when open areas become uncomfortably warm.

For the quietest experience, visit early in the morning shortly after the park gates open, or in the late afternoon when the light filters through the trees to create dramatic reflections on the water's surface.
