Frame the Acropolis Through the Arch

Hadrian's Arch is famous for its dual identity, marked by two historic inscriptions. The side facing the Acropolis reads, 'This is Athens, the ancient city of Theseus,' while the side facing the temple reads, 'This is the city of Hadrian, and not of Theseus.' To truly appreciate this historical dividing line, do not just take a quick photo from the busy roadside.

The smartest photographic angle is from the eastern side, looking west. If you position yourself correctly near the entrance of the Temple of Olympian Zeus, you can beautifully frame the distant Acropolis right through the lower archway. This perspective captures both of Athens' great eras in a single, stunning shot.
