Look Up for the Horn of Plenty

The defining feature of Markthal is its breathtaking 11,000-square-meter ceiling artwork titled Horn of Plenty (Hoorn des Overvloeds) by artists Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam. Spanning the giant inner arched hall, this vibrant artwork depicts oversized fruits, vegetables, seeds, and flowers alongside Rotterdam's historic St. Lawrence Church rising in the background.

For the absolute best vantage point without crowd obstruction, head up to the elevated first-floor restaurant terraces located on top of the food stalls. From here, you can capture wide-angle photos of the artwork illuminated by natural light streaming through the massive glass cable-net facades at both ends of the hall.
