Navigate Effortlessly with the VAL Metro

Categories: Transportation
Lille made urban transit history in 1983 by launching the world’s first fully automated driverless rubber-tired metro system, known as the VAL (Véhicule Automatique Léger). Today, lines 1 and 2 offer one of the fastest and most efficient ways to travel between key hubs like Gare de Lille Flandres, Gare de Lille Europe, and outlying neighborhoods.
To get the best experience, sit at the very front of the lead car to enjoy an unobstructed view through the front window as you speed through the illuminated tunnels. Tickets must be validated before boarding at the turnstiles; opt for a Pass Pass rechargeable card or contactless payment on validators to avoid standing in line at ticket machines during peak commuting hours.
