Pack Warm Layers for Underground Microclimates

Categories: Packing | Health & Safety
While summer temperatures across the South Moravian countryside frequently exceed 30°C (86°F), inside the cave systems leading to the bottom of Macocha Abyss, temperature remains a constant, chilly 7°C to 8°C (45°F–46°F) year-round with near 100% humidity.
Always pack a lightweight insulated fleece or fleece-lined jacket and long pants in your daypack, even on warm summer afternoons. Sturdy, closed-toe footwear with deep rubber treads is equally critical, as stone cave walkways and wooden steps leading around the abyss are perpetually wet and slippery from condensation.
