Reserve Beach Clubs in Advance During Peak Months

Rows of beach umbrellas overlooking crystal-clear turquoise sea along the coast of Puglia.
Categories: Traveling | Preparation

Puglia's coastline is divided between spiagge libere (free public beaches) and private lidi (beach clubs offering sun loungers, umbrellas, showers, and dining). In July and August, popular free beaches—especially sandy stretches in Salento and rocky inlets in Polignano—become exceptionally crowded by 9:00 AM.

If you prefer dedicated loungers and shade, reserve your spot at private beach clubs several days to weeks in advance during mid-summer. Top beach clubs around Capitolo, Torre dell'Orso, and Porto Cesareo frequently sell out of front-row umbrellas well ahead of the weekend.

For rocky coves like those found around Monopoli and Polignano a Mare, pack sturdy water shoes to navigate slippery limestone cliffs and sea urchins safely.
