Time Your Sunday Visit Right

Vendors setting up vintage items at Avissinias Square antique market in Athens during morning light.
Categories: Traveling | General

The character of Monastiraki Flea Market dramatically shifts depending on the day of the week. Monday through Saturday, the main stretch along Pandrossou and Ifestou Streets operates as a lively shopping alley filled with leather goods, souvenirs, and handmade sandals. However, Sunday is when the true vintage market comes alive around Avissinias Square.

To experience authentic antique hunting, arrive between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM on Sunday morning. Vendors lay out vintage vinyl records, rare coins, Ottoman-era trinkets, and retro furniture on blankets and wooden tables. By mid-day, the narrow lanes become densely packed and difficult to navigate.
