Time Your Visit for the Rose Bloom

A narrow cobblestone street lined with historic half-timbered houses covered in blooming pink and red roses in Gerberoy.
Categories: Preparation | Traveling

To experience Gerberoy at its most magical, you must time your visit during the peak rose blossoming season, which typically runs from mid-May through June. Inspired by the post-impressionist painter Henri Le Sidaner, who fell in love with the village and encouraged everyone to plant roses, almost every half-timbered house is draped in vibrant climbing blooms during this period.

If you want to experience the village's signature event, aim for the Fête des Roses (Rose Festival), held annually on the third Sunday of June. However, be prepared for significant crowds. For a peaceful, contemplative experience, visit on a weekday morning when the morning dew is still on the petals and the streets are empty of day-trippers.
