Visit During Peak Spring Melt for Maximum Volume

Categories: Preparation | Traveling
Timing your visit to Staubbach Falls can make the difference between witnessing a thunderous vertical cascade and a gentle, wind-blown mist. The waterfall relies heavily on melting snow from the high Alpine peaks above the Lauterbrunnen Valley. Consequently, the flow peaks dramatically between late May and early July.
By late August and September, the water volume drops significantly. If you travel during early autumn, expect a much slimmer stream. For the most dramatic photography and sheer natural force, plan your trip during late spring when warm temperatures trigger rapid glacial and snow runoff.
