The Netherlands is famous for unpredictable weather, and when sudden rain showers hit, visitors inevitably swarm the zoo's premier covered habitats. The two most popular indoor spaces are the Oceanium, featuring a 22-meter underwater shark tunnel, and Amazonica, Europe's largest indoor tropical butterfly dome.

To experience these immersive habitats without heavy crowds or steamed camera lenses, schedule your indoor exploration right at park opening (09:00) or during the final two hours before closing. Between 11:30 and 14:30, especially on weekends or overcast days, the indoor boardwalks become congested with strollers. Prioritize the outdoor African savannah and Asian grasslands during midday when crowd dispersion is at its best.
