While Pena Palace and the Moorish Castle draw the heaviest crowds, Quinta da Regaleira and the Palace of Monserrate offer arguably more enchanting and peaceful experiences. Regaleira is famous for its Gothic-Manueline palace, underground labyrinths, and the mystical Initiation Well—arrive right at opening (10:00 AM) and head directly to the well to descend the spiral staircase before tour groups arrive.

For absolute tranquility, continue further west to the Palace of Monserrate. Featuring ornate Indo-Gothic architecture and sprawling botanical gardens with plants collected from around the globe, it receives a fraction of Sintra's tour bus traffic and offers the most serene garden stroll in the region.
