Avoid the Saturday Shabbat Closure

The ornate exterior of the Spanish Synagogue in Prague under a soft morning sky.

Unlike most state-run museums in Prague, the sites managed by the Jewish Museum in Prague—including the historic Old Jewish Cemetery, the Spanish Synagogue, and the Pinkas Synagogue—are strictly closed on Saturdays (the Jewish Sabbath) and during major Jewish holidays. Planning your visit for a Saturday will leave you staring at closed gates.

To make the most of your itinerary, schedule your exploration of Josefov for a weekday or Sunday. Sunday mornings can get incredibly crowded with weekend travelers, so a Tuesday or Wednesday morning is often the absolute best time for a quiet, contemplative experience.
