Catch the Afternoon Sun and Evening Floodlights

Staubbach Falls illuminated at night above a traditional Swiss alpine village.
Categories: General | Traveling

Timing your photography at Staubbach Falls makes a world of difference. Because the waterfall drops along an east-facing cliff face, early morning light leaves the cascade in harsh shadow. Aim for mid-to-late afternoon when direct sunlight hits the spray, frequently creating brilliant rainbows at the base of the waterfall.

Be sure to return after dark as well. From May through October, powerful floodlights illuminate the 297-meter waterfall every evening, casting an ethereal white ribbon against the dark vertical mountain wall above the quiet Swiss village.
