Master the Malaria Defense

Kruger National Park is located in a malaria-risk area, particularly in the rainy summer months from November to April. While the risk is generally low to moderate, taking preventative measures is highly recommended. Consult a travel doctor well in advance of your trip to secure the correct malaria prophylaxis for your specific health profile.

Practical Defense: Beyond medication, your best defense is avoiding bites. Pack a high-quality insect repellent containing at least 30% DEET or Picaridin. Apply it generously at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active. Wear lightweight, long-sleeved shirts and long trousers in neutral colors (avoid dark blue and black, which attract certain biting insects) during evening game drives and dinners.
