The Prison Gate Museum is housed inside an authentic 14th-century gatehouse, meaning the interior layout features very narrow, uneven spiral stone staircases, low ceiling beams, and dim lighting. Due to the preserved historic architecture, the building is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible and cannot accommodate strollers or large backpacks, which must be stored in on-site lockers.

Additionally, take note of the graphic nature of the exhibits. The museum displays genuine historical torture instruments, execution relics, and detailed accounts of political imprisonment—such as the infamous 1672 lynching of the De Witt brothers. While highly educational for adults and older teens, parents should exercise discretion when bringing children under the age of ten.
