Respect the Red Fietspad

A smooth reddish-tinted bicycle lane alongside a sidewalk with cyclists commuting during sunset.
Categories: Health & Safety | Transportation | Traveling

Dedicated cycle tracks (fietspaden), easily identified by their reddish-terracotta asphalt and white bicycle markings, are strictly reserved for fast-moving cyclists, cargo bikes, and scooters. Never wander, stand, or pause on these lanes to check your phone or snap photos.

Pedestrians must remain on adjacent grey-paved pedestrian sidewalks. If you hear an urgent bike bell behind you, do not freeze or suddenly jump backward; step sideways onto the pedestrian walkway immediately. Always look both directions before crossing any street, as cyclists move silently and maintain clear right-of-way.
