Attending a performance at the National Theatre remains a solemn cultural tradition in the Czech Republic, viewed as a celebration of national identity rather than casual entertainment. While international tourists in jeans or sneakers are rarely turned away at the door, doing so will leave you noticeably underdressed among local patrons who adhere strictly to dark suits, formal evening dresses, or elegant cocktail attire.

You must also use the mandatory cloakroom (šatna) located on each floor to check large winter coats, bulky jackets, umbrellas, and backpacks. Coat check attendants charge a minimal cash or card fee, and theater ushers will strictly deny entry to the auditorium if you attempt to carry outdoor outerwear to your seat.
