Use Google Maps Offline to Save Data

One of the most practical travel hacks is to download maps to your phone before you leave home. This allows you to use Google Maps for turn-by-turn navigation, search for locations, and explore your surroundings—all without needing an internet connection. It’s a perfect way to save your mobile data and a lifesaver if you find yourself in an area with a poor signal.
The process is incredibly simple. It's best to do this over a stable Wi-Fi connection before your trip to avoid using your cellular data.
How to Download Google Maps for Offline Use:
- Open the Google Maps app on your smartphone.
- Search for the city or region you'll be visiting (e.g., "Paris, France").
- Tap the name of the place at the bottom of the screen to bring up its information card.
- Find and tap the “Download” button (you may need to scroll right through the menu with options like "Directions," "Save," etc.).
- Adjust the rectangular frame on the map to cover the entire area you need, then tap “Download” again.
Once downloaded, you can navigate the area freely, even in airplane mode. Just be aware that downloaded maps can expire after some time (usually a year), so it's good practice to update them before each trip. Also, offline maps provide driving, walking, and cycling navigation but won't show real-time traffic information or public transit directions.
