Navigate the Yellow Line Driving Courtesy

Categories: Transportation | Health & Safety
Driving on two-lane national highways involves a unique driving courtesy. If a faster vehicle approaches from behind on a single-lane stretch, it is common courtesy to briefly shift onto the hard yellow shoulder to let them overtake safely, provided the shoulder is completely unobstructed.
Once past, the overtaking driver will typically tap their hazard lights twice as a thank-you signal, to which you can briefly flash your high beams in acknowledgment. Never pull into the shoulder around blind rises, sharp curves, or after dark when pedestrians or animals may be walking along the edge.
