Master the Soft-Duffel Luggage Rule

Categories: Packing | Flight
Bush plane transfers into remote wilderness camps rely on small aircraft such as the Cessna 208 Caravan. These aircraft enforce rigid baggage allowances strictly capped between 15 kg (33 lbs) and 20 kg (44 lbs) per passenger, which includes all camera gear and daypacks.
Crucially, your baggage must be a 100% soft-sided duffel bag without rigid internal frames, hard bottoms, or protruding wheels. Aircraft cargo pods are uniquely contoured and extremely compact; ground handlers must physically manipulate and compress each bag into narrow compartments. If you arrive with a rigid rolling suitcase, you will be required to leave it behind in storage lockers at Maun or Kasane airport and repack your belongings into an emergency duffel.
